Kitten With Smushed Face Has The Cutest Personality To Match
“She needed to go to a home that loved her smushy face and understood her feistiness.”
"Feisty" is not a word Lindsey Hidenrite, cat coordinator for Helping Hands Pet Rescue in Gainesville, Florida, would have associated with Smush when she rescued the kitten last summer. Hidenrite, a veterinary student at University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, often gets called upon to take strays suffering from severe health issues. That was the case with Smush, who came to Hidenrite when she was about 10 days old after being found outside and close to death.
Smush had a cleft lip and facial deformities, and was suffering from an upper respiratory infection and a severe case of ringworm. She was unable to eat, so Hidenrite syringe-fed her every four hours while treating her with antibiotics and frequent medicated baths.

Smush, the Kitty with the Squished Face, Is Here to Squeeze Your Heart Until It Bursts
There’s a new feline face on Instagram and it might look little different from the kitties you’re used to.
Smush gets her name from the unusually adorable arrangement of her furry face; however, her unique look is the result of several genetic abnormalities and a cleft lip.
Smush is taking her differences in stride and is using them to build a social media empire. The Instagram newcomer already has more than 13,600 followers and is gaining more by the minute.

In the summer of 2017, Florida resident Shannon Jackson and her wife Sarah saw a Facebook post about a tiny ginger and white kitten with a cleft lip and a chromosomal abnormality who had been found outside and all by herself. “Sarah and I saw her photo,” remembers Shannon, “and just knew she was meant to be with us.
The veterinarian student treated Smush for an upper respiratory infection and a severe case of ringworm, and she also fed the sick kitten every four hours using a syringe. A month later, Smush was eating on her own, her upper respiratory infection was gone, and she was free from ringworm thanks to medication and lots of baths! Strong and in great health, this special ginger and white kitten was ready to find her forever home when Shannon and Sarah submitted an application to adopt Smush.
